Stories from the front: how sappers of the 80th ODSHB laid a ton of explosives and destroyed the observation posts of the occupiers

Sappers of the 80th brigade launched a UR-83P demining installation to eliminate the enemy near Bakhmut to help our combat landing party go on the offensive.

The total weight of the installation is 1,810 kilograms, the explosive weighs 1,380 kilograms.

“The guys put the “urka” on the “motoliga”. On the first night, we brought 18 ropes for 200 meters under targeted fire. They fired at us with LNG, a 120-mm mortar, AGS, and a tank. Shells with shrapnel burst overhead. We returned at dawn. They retreated because there was very strong artillery shelling. The second night we were not allowed to work. And on the third night, it seemed that all Bakhmut’s artillery was aimed at this piece. Bakhmut was silent at that time, and we were constantly being shot at. They were injured. For twenty minutes we could not get out of the dugout to evacuate them. We left to come back again,” says sapper Roman.

Fighters recall that on the fifth day they managed to successfully complete a combat mission. Our fighters threw explosives at the enemy positions.

Stormtroopers feel safer when sapper-engineering units demine or mine the front edge. Our sappers are grateful to their commander for the successful completion of their tasks. He and his soldiers go to ground zero and into the gray zone to kill as many Russian hordes as possible.

“The commander is training us, God forbid! We can climb swamps, and hang on trees, and fly, if necessary, he will teach us. A high rank does not allow the commander to go to the front line, and he goes even further. He shows us an example of how to work,” says the soldier.

The defenders admit that everyone is scared, but the civilians in the rear should not lose heart and prepare to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“It’s not as scary as it might seem. Of course, this is war, you can be killed. We understand that. But we all came here to protect our parents, children, women. Guys, join forces, because everyone has children and a wife. There is nothing to fear here. Be afraid that the Russian occupiers will come to your house, drive you out, rape a woman… Come to us, we will teach you how to kill the enemy, survive and get closer to victory,” says the Ukrainian defender.
