In the capital of Belgium, Brussels, a very important seminar dedicated to disaster medicine within the framework of the European Union Civil Protection recently took place. Representatives of the Municipal Non-Profit Enterprise of Lviv Oblast ‘Lviv Regional Center for Emergency Medical Assistance and Disaster Medicine’ had the honor of sharing their unique experience and achievements in this field.
During 2022-2024, the center actively engaged in MEDEVAC medical evacuation, helping Ukrainians receive the necessary treatment abroad through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism supported by the European Commission and other international organizations.
From the meeting with European partners, it follows that there is a need to establish five interregional disaster medicine hubs in Ukraine, which would ensure coordinated responses to emergencies. This would effectively contribute to the formation and certification of international, national, and interregional disaster medicine teams, the provision of necessary equipment, as well as the organization of training and logistics.
