As part of the event, 70 medical volunteers will study with leading doctors and experts and then give lectures to students.
On 26 August, the “Hear the Doctor” summer school started. This is a training course for medical volunteers on public health from leading doctors, healthcare experts, and communication specialists.
The organisers have planned five days of training (30 hours), meetings with opinion leaders, lectures, workshops, and trainings.
Maksym Kozytskyi, the project’s ideological inspirer and head of the Lviv Regional Audit Office, greeted everyone involved in the event.
“I am honoured to be among you today and thank you for these several years of cooperation: for the lectures you have given, for the knowledge that students have gained, the knowledge that will help them understand their own lives. After all, the foundations of health are laid at school.
It is very important that we educate healthy students, because without this it is very difficult to have a healthy nation and build a state. Thank you for participating in this project, you inspire young people, their parents and teachers to lead a healthy lifestyle and prevent diseases.
Over the three years of our Hear a Doctor project’s existence, student interns under the mentorship of leading doctors in our region have delivered more than 550 lectures in schools. They reached 21 thousand students from all over Lviv region. And this is a serious result, because these 21,000 children came home with new knowledge and shared it with their families and friends, so the positive effect is additionally spread to thousands of people,” the head of the region said.
According to Halyna Bordun, head of the Hear a Doctor project, after completing the summer school, volunteers will be able to give lectures in educational institutions, which include 5 main blocks.
“These are healthy eating, cardiovascular disease prevention, mental health, trauma, first aid, and puberty.
Given its relevance, the project is becoming more popular every year. For example, this year we have selected 70 participants out of 150 registered and engaged 18 speakers for the training,” she said.

As a reminder, Hear the Doctor is an educational project of the Lviv Regional Medical Association, in which volunteers (doctors, interns, medical students) give lectures to schoolchildren about healthy lifestyles and disease prevention. The project has been running for over three years. Twice a year, new volunteers are recruited and trained to take part in lectures at educational institutions in Lviv region.
Since January 2024, sign language interpreters from the All-Ukrainian Association of Sign Language Interpreters and People with Disabilities have been involved in the project to make the lectures accessible to people with hearing impairments.
Soon, the project will start recruiting for a health marathon, which anyone can join. This is a 21-day flash mob during which participants, accompanied by the organising team and medical experts, will be able to acquire healthy habits, learn more about their bodies and gain new knowledge.
