10-Month-Old Boy Undergoes Successful Surgery to Remove a Toy Ring in Novyi Rozdil

Doctors from the children’s hospital “Ohmatdyt” performed an urgent operation on a 10-month-old boy who swallowed a toy ring.

The parents became concerned when their baby showed signs of distress: excessive drooling, difficulty breathing, and an inability to swallow. Seeking help, they visited a local hospital in Novyi Rozdil, where an X-ray revealed a foreign object in the esophagus. The boy was quickly transferred to the specialized center.

Nighttime Operation
Pediatric surgeon Oleksandr Kolodiy explained that the team performed rigid esophagoscopy immediately after hospitalization at 2 a.m., successfully removing the ring. While the operation was smooth, the toy had slightly damaged the esophagus lining.

Quick Recovery
The child was able to eat and drink the following day. After all necessary examinations, he was discharged home.

Doctor’s Recommendations
Specialists emphasize the importance of acting promptly in such situations. The longer a foreign object remains in the esophagus, the harder it becomes to remove, increasing the risk of complications.

The surgical team included:

  • Pediatric Surgeon: Oleksandr Kolodiy.
  • Anesthesiologist: Sofiia Kokhman.

Advice for Parents

Doctors urge parents to keep small objects out of children’s reach and to act quickly if a foreign object is swallowed. Attempting to remove it at home can worsen the situation. Seek professional medical help immediately.
