80% of hospitalised children in Lviv Oblast have pneumonia

Doctors note that the symptoms of pneumonia are now mostly not classic.

At the multidisciplinary paediatrics clinic of OKHMATDYT, 80% of hospitalised patients are children diagnosed with pneumonia. Most often, these are children aged 3 to 18 years.

OKHMATDYT doctors warn and ask parents to be vigilant about their children’s health.

“Every day we admit about 10-12 new patients with pneumonia. The course of the disease is complex and requires mandatory hospitalisation rather than outpatient treatment. The main reason for this increase is the seasonal peak of respiratory infections. We recorded a slight decrease in the incidence only during the school holidays, but after they ended, the number of cases increased again. Take care of your children’s health and respond to any alarming symptoms in time!” says Viktoria Bergtravm, head of the multidisciplinary paediatrics clinic.

Doctors urge parents to be vigilant, as the symptoms of pneumonia are now mostly not classic. Children may not have shortness of breath or a very high temperature, as well as apnoea. Doctors recommend that you see a doctor immediately if your child’s body temperature does not come down well for 2-3 days.

Also, if the cough becomes annoying, stronger and longer, or if chest pain appears, especially in adolescents. This may be a sign of viral pneumonia, which requires special attention.
