For the first time, a two-day cardiology conference aimed at improving the quality of cardiovascular disease treatment in Ukraine and adapting medical care to the conditions of life during the war was held at St Panteleimon’s Hospital of the First Medical Association of Lviv.
Over the course of two days, experts exchanged experience, analysed clinical cases in cardiology, learned about advanced research and technologies, and discussed updated guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cardiovascular diseases.
The conference was attended mainly by Lviv cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, interventional radiologists and family doctors. Those who could not attend physically joined online. The event was broadcast live on the OpenLikar platform.
Among the top foreign speakers were Serhiy Melnychuk, a cardiac surgeon from the United States, and Igor Humennyi, a cardiac surgeon and transplantologist from Poland. Vasyl Protsko, Head of the Department of Cardiology and Reperfusion Therapy at St Panteleimon’s Hospital, was also among the speakers.
“Cardiology conferences are extremely important for Ukraine, especially in times of war. Military operations have a significant impact on public health. Stress, anxiety, as well as physical and emotional stress experienced by military and civilians, significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. And cardiology conferences serve as an important source of information about the latest methods of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases,” summed up Natalia Matolinets, medical director of the First Medical Association of Lviv.
