A fragment of an enemy shell pierced his neck, stopped close to his carotid artery and could have killed the defender at any moment. The maxillofacial surgeons of the UNBROKEN National Rehabilitation Center began to save the soldier.
A nearly one-centimeter shrapnel was lodged in the patient’s neck and hiding right next to the carotid artery. So there was a high threat that it could move, pierce a blood vessel and cause massive bleeding.
The only way to prevent the military’s death was to remove the dangerous piece of hardware. And the maxillofacial surgeons at the UNBROKEN Center successfully coped with this task.
Now the defender is feeling well and has been discharged from the center.
“Unfortunately, our specialists often have to perform such surgeries. After all, shrapnel in the neck, close to major blood vessels, is a common injury among defenders,” the UNBROKEN Center adds.
For reference.
The UNBROKEN National Rehabilitation Center is a unique place where adults and children affected by the war receive comprehensive, qualified medical care. This includes reconstructive surgery, orthopedics and robotic prosthetics. The injured are not only fitted with prostheses, but they are also manufactured here. The center also provides physical, psychological and psychosocial rehabilitation for injured military and civilians. The goal of the center is to ensure that people with war injuries do not have to go abroad for treatment, but can be rescued, prosthetically repaired, and rehabilitated in Ukraine.
